When we look at history we usually pay attention to the big stuff; the wars, the periods of mass social change, the rise and fall of great powers. This is all very interesting and important of course, but it can often feel very removed from our own lives today.

The reality is that ‘big history’ affected everybody everywhere, from aristocrats to farm labourers. The people who inhabited your area had no choice but to do their best in new and scary circumstances, often with amazing consequences. We’re convinced that by understanding history at  a local level we can connect big, distant historical events to our ancestors who experienced it. That’s pretty awesome, right?

It’s also pretty great learning about how crazy your hometown/city has been in the past. Every town in Britain, no matter how boring, will have experienced all manner of human emotion.

We’ve only just started, and there are a lot of towns to write about! If you want to help us speed up then click on the ‘Get Involved’ page.

I’m very sorry – please fill me in! Just use the contact form on the ‘Get Involved’ page to let me know what the problem is.
